Why choose a midwife in your fertility care?
Midwives are experts in all things related to reproductive healthcare. Midwives have been providing fertility support and guidance in their communities for many thousands of years. In today’s world, we utilize the newest technologies and research and weave them with traditional wisdom in a model of care that values consent and empowerment.
Who is midwifery care for?
Midwifery care is for everyone! Bay Fertility Care particularly specializes in care for those whose needs often go unmet in the mainstream health system. This includes: queer people, trans and nonbinary people, single people, people who experience size discrimination, “older” parents, non-traditional families, those wishing to include ritual or cultural practices in their process, and those seeking a more holistic approach to health and fertility. Additionally, midwifery care is typically much more affordable than fertility care through a clinic or doctor’s office, as fertility care is usually not covered by insurance.

What are the differences between home IUI with a midwife and care at a fertility clinic?
We are on-call for you and can provide services outside of typical business hours, assuring your IUI is well-timed in your peak fertility window.
Our care is oriented towards people who are presumed to have healthy fertility, but need some extra support. This is especially true for queer people who don’t have sperm in their relationship, single women, or straight couples experiencing male-factor sub-fertility. We also work with people to optimize their fertility using lifestyle changes like nutrition, physical movement, supplements, and herbs.
Receive personalized care that is based in your home, with a midwife who is accessible by text or phone call.
Home IUI and fertility care with midwives tends to be much more affordable, and we are happy to discuss sliding-scale options for low-income families.
Clinics typically provide care Monday-Friday and only during particular hours. If your ovulation occurs outside of these hours, your IUI will performed at a time that may reduce your likelihood of success.
Fertility clinics specialize in female infertility, and are a great option for people who need IVF or other types of more specialized intervention. Clinics tend to orient their care towards heterosexual couples, who often have different needs than queer/trans people or those building non-traditional families.
Clinics tend to feel sterile and impersonal, and it can be difficult to reach a provider outside of scheduled appointment times.
Clinics are expensive and usually not covered by medical insurance.
